Professional Breaking and Schooling

The Byrne Family have a proven record in producing and training horses for a variety of equestrian spheres. From breaking and schooling, remedial work with problem horses to fine tuning your competition horse. We have catered for horses and ponies of all types and varying disciplines.  As each horse and owner have their own set of requirements, we can tailor each horses training to the job he or she will be required to do when they are back at home.  This can include everything from hacking out / introduction to traffic, introduction to jumping or preparation for competition. Michael & Alma will agree an individual program with each client before any work commences, and owners are welcome to visit during their horses stay.  All horses stay with us for the duration on a full livery basis.

When the pre-agreed program is completed, owners not only see the horse perform the required tasks, but are also given the opportunity to trial the horse themselves in various circumstances, before the horse returns home.  This ensures that both the horse and owner are happy with the work done and are able to continue working together in their home environment.

All work carried out on the horse is done so under the supervision and instruction of Michael or Alma and both are widely known for their sympathetic approach to training. The owner will be kept fully up to date of the progress made by the horse but keep in mind the rate a horse will progress depends on the horse’s age, physical strength as well as maturity of mind.

Transport for the horses to and from the yard can be arranged should it be required.

If you require schooling for behavioural problems in your horse we would firstly aim to establish the root cause of any behavioural problem, therefore we are able to design a programme to rehabilitate. Sometimes we have discovered, that the onset of behavioural problems have been directly linked to an injury or trauma. In these circumstances a holistic approach is taken and equine therapists are available on request.

Like humans, horses have different temperaments and different personalities, what may work for one napping horse will not always work for another, horses need to be treated as an individual, understanding his mind is another key factor to determining the rehabilitation programme and the subsequent prognosis to a problem.

We have on request Miss Polly Cassidy a practitioner of McTimoney-Corley Spinal Therapy specialising in the gentle yet effective whole body and spinal treatment for the promotion of good health and general well being in animals. Contact details are:
